Generally speaking, most peoples favorite foods are bad for us. Pizza, chocolate, ice cream... The list goes on. We instinctively crave foods that, on balance, are not the best option for us – they are unhealthy, lack nutrition and often they even fill us up – but week in week out we always eat more... Why is it that these types of foods are so appealing?
There is no doubt that there is a certain attractive to unhealthy foods. Interestingly, it's often not even in the way the food tastes. Think back to the last time you had fast food. Did you really savor every bite, or did you cram it in your mouth on the go? Sometimes it's just for convenience.
For example, at a sporting event, it's unlikely one of the food options is a casserole full of veg. It's much more likely they will be selling hot dogs, burgers, and fries. All options that don't help on the weight-loss journey. Sometimes it can be something as simple as the smell of a dish – find someone who doesn’t salivate at the smell of bacon and they're probably lying.
The most common reason people crave these unhealthy, fattening foods is because it's simple, often easy to cook, and we don't have to think much about it. For the most part, they can also be eaten on the go. What we need to do is to get to the point where we find a healthy option to be just as hassle-free. For many people, the best choice in this situation is a sandwich – just as long as there is not too much butter on it, anyway!
